Seismic Base Isolated Nuclear Power Plant Shaken by a Real Earthquake

SMATCH is an international benchmark regarding a seismic base-isolated Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) submitted to a real earthquake, organised by IRSN (Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire) and EDF (Électricité de France), under the umbrella of OECD-NEA (Nuclear Energy Agency).

About SMATCH

The objective of this benchmark is to assess the efficiency of engineering practices for calculating (1) the seismic ground motion at the Cruas site and (2) the seismic response of the base-isolated Cruas NPP.

Agenda

This benchmark is divided into different phases and stages. In order to navigate through those phases, the participants will be asked to conduct different calculations depending on the data they will be provided. This data consists of the soil model of the studied area, the earthquake characteristics, geometrical and mechanical descriptions of the NPP structures and supports.
